It was a busy week. Carol came up briefly to successfully complete her Sailing and Seamanship Class, I worked on the stern anchor chain locker and a few other little projects, sailed a Wet Wednesday race and paddled myself to exhaustion. Jim and Donna finished the cover for my kayak, which turned out great. What a luxury to have someone else do the work! A little clean-up after I post this blog, and I'll be taking it easy rather than padding tonight. I'm just worn out and need some R & R to recover!

Ok, just read your description of the lazarette renovation.....brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThanks! My head is so swollen I could hardly make it through the companionway! I must confess, though, that making patterns in various ways is a necessity of boat work and a standard practice by shipwrights.
DeleteNice Laz chain locker.
ReplyDeleteHow is it going to drain and vent?
Thank goodness it isn't chain or you would be listing to port UAU!
OOOH! A Bird!!! Saltymonkey likes the pineapple tip flowers
There is a narrow gap at the bottom of the new plywood divider that is plenty large enough for water to get through, but too small to foul the anchor line. It would drain to the separate shallow bilge in the lazarette. Right now, the lazarette and the chain locker vent through to the aft cabin. However, when I restore the water-tight bulkhead between the lazarette and the aft cabin, that will no longer be the case. I'll have to add a vent to the access hatch after I reinforce it. (It's the only part of the boat I felt was too lightly built.) I will use minimum (less than 20 ft) of chain so I can bring all the line in by hand. In a pinch, there is a fair lead to the primary winches.
